I have no medals to pin, no war wounds to show and no
service uniform to wear… I am one of the lucky ones of my generation who did
not serve in the military. This Centenary of the ANZACs [and every ANZAC day],
it is but proper and right to pay respects to those who made the ultimate
sacrifice so that we, the future generation would not have to sacrifice and may
live in the freedom they died for. What I have is a grateful heart and thanks to this; my adoptive nation,
from a citizen of this nation…
"… remember that prosperity can be only for the
free, that freedom is the sure possession of those alone who have the courage
to defend it.” [Pericles]
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age
shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and
in the morning, We will remember them.” [The Ode, by Laurence Binyon].
“Lest we
forget.”
